The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear visited WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca this past weekend for Rounds 11 and 12 of the Pro FM and Formula Mazda class championships. Bill Weaver in the Formula Mazda class grabbed pole position and both wins. The PFM racing was close and there were some great battles on both days. Jay Horak secured pole position to start the weekend off right, but John Purcell was able to win in round 11. Horak worked hard to secure the win in round 12, but was plauged by brake issues in the closing laps of the race. Horak was able to hold onto the second position.
“We had a lot of fun and the racing was great,” noted Series Official Craig DiGrazia, “There were 23 cars in our group, and 14 of them were contesting for FCC points. There were multiple battles in Pro FM and Formula Mazda during both races which was fun to watch. The weather was great, and so was the competition!”

The series has one weekend left for PFM and FM, and two race weekends left for FS. So far this season there have been 26 unique drivers vying for FCC points. The points leaders after this weekend are; Bill Weaver in Formula Mazda, Jason Pettit in FormulaSPEED, and John Purcell in the Pro FM class.
At every Formula Car Challenge event series partners provide additional awards to the competitors. At this event, select drivers were awarded complimentary Goodyear Racing tires. Next up on the 2019 schedule for FM and Pro FM is Rounds 13 and 14 at Thunderhill Raceway Park October 25th-27th. The next FormulaSPEED double-header takes place at Buttonwillow Raceway Park September 21st – 22nd.
