Recently the Formula Mazda factory announced updates to the venerable Formula Mazda (FM) to make it more competitive in the mixed-car FX class, especially at The SCCA Runoffs. Series competitors, friends, and marketing partners have been asking how this will affect The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear (FCC).
For 2022 FCC plans to keep the Formula Mazda spec. The series remains committed to spec formula car racing and the cost containment it provides. This will include continuing to utilize a spec tire provided by series sponsor Goodyear, with a limited tire use rule as usual.
Recent FM Local History:
In 2020 SCCA Club Racing moved the spec Formula Mazda cars into a new mixed-car FX class. The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear continued recognize the FM independently of FX and SCCA Club Racing. This 2020 action was paralleled by series partner The San Francisco Region of the SCCA (SFR) which implemented a Regional Class for FM.
The Formula Car Challenge presented by Goodyear will continue to host a championship for spec Formula Mazdas for the foreseeable future. The 2022 FCC presented by Goodyear schedule was announced in late 2021, and World Speed Inc., Mazda and Goodyear remain committed to providing support and awards to our Formula Mazda and Pro Formula Mazda racers.
